FC Porto’s roller hockey coach Paulo Freitas has highlighted the quality and belief of his European champions after their 3-1 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League final on Sunday in Coimbra.
“The strong start was part of the game plan. We knew there was a lot of quality on the other side, and we knew they had the same will and ambition to win the trophy. We had to start strong and be very rigorous defensively. I think it was an absolutely fantastic first half from FC Porto, and the second half was more balanced, with a lot of quality from the opponent. We showed resilience and humility, which were part of the process of winning this title that we wanted so much,” Freitas told reporters.
“This victory is a moment of great satisfaction. We have to celebrate a lot today because we worked hard to make it happen, but on Tuesday we will be back to work. The team has a lot of quality and always believed. We ultimately achieved our goal of winning the trophy, which we put in FC Porto’s museum, and that’s what stays in history,” he added.
