The Sporting futsal coach highlighted the team’s victories over Kairat, Benfica, Cartagena, and Palma, insisting the success was not due to “chance or luck.” Players gave him an unexpected shower in the press room.
Sporting’s futsal head coach, Nuno Dias, stated on Sunday that the club’s Champions League triumph was “clear and well-deserved,” leaving “no doubt in anyone’s mind.”
“It doesn’t taste better or worse than the previous two Champions League titles. It has a special taste, above all a feeling of a deserved victory. This is a conquest that leaves no doubt. Anyone who analyzes futsal, who analyzes sports and has seen these matches, has absolutely no doubt that Sporting is deserving and, with all justice, leaves Pesaro with the Champions League heading to Lisbon,” he said in the press conference room at the Pesaro Futsal Arena, where his players ended up dousing him with water and beer.
Already soaked, the coach continued his analysis of the final and the competition, highlighting that Sporting defeated “all the top-ranked teams” in futsal before lifting the trophy. “We beat Kairat, we beat Benfica, we beat Cartagena, we beat Palma. We beat all the best teams, and in a clear manner. We beat them all with full justice, because we were better. And that makes me even more satisfied, because it didn’t happen by chance. We didn’t win by accident or luck,” he said, noting that “the crucial moment” was maintaining a 1-0 lead while playing with one less man in the last two minutes of the first half (after Diogo Santos was sent off).
“More than winning, it’s the way we won, how we managed to win. More than winning and finally reclaiming this trophy, which had been slipping away from us for some time, it’s the way we did it, the clear and deserved manner in which we achieved this triumph after beating all the best teams in Europe,” he declared.
