FC Rostov secured their place in the Russian Premier League (RPL) for another season with a convincing 3-1 away victory over Tolyatti’s Akron in the 29th round of the league. 
The goals for Rostov came from Kirill Shchetinin (21′), Mohammad Mohebi (39′), and Viktor Melekhin (45+2′). Akron’s only goal came via an own goal from Rostov defender Umar Sako (42′). Artyom Dzyuba, Akron’s star striker and Russia’s all-time top scorer, missed the match due to injury.
With this win, Rostov moved to 33 points and climbed to 10th place in the RPL standings. Akron, with 27 points, remained in 13th place, sitting in the relegation playoff zone. As a result, both Rostov and 11th-place Orenburg have mathematically guaranteed their survival in the top flight.
In the final round of the season, Akron will travel to face Samara’s Krylya Sovetov on May 17, while Rostov will host Saint Petersburg’s Zenit at home.
