Mitch Johnson made a decision that many viewed as a significant risk during the San Antonio Spurs’ Game 3 matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves: he kept Victor Wembanyama on the court after the young star picked up his fifth foul with over six minutes left in the game.
Rather than playing cautiously, Wembanyama remained aggressive on both ends of the floor, helping the Spurs secure a seven-point victory and a crucial lead in the series.
Johnson praised the impact his franchise player had throughout the contest, especially on defense near the rim.
“He really imposed himself on the game,” Johnson said. “He established himself by dominating the paint and the rim on both ends.”
The coach also credited Wembanyama for handling physical play well and continuing to execute despite the pressure of foul trouble late in the game.
